The Water Safety Instructor, also known as WSI, course trains instructor candidates to teach the fundamental Learn-to-swim courses including Parent and Child Aquatics, Preschool Aquatics, Learn-to-Swim Levels 1-3 and private swimming lessons, Learn-to-Swim Levels 4-6 and Adult Swim. This certification is the gold standard and provides the most comprehensive training for swim instructors.

Students who successfully complete the course will be able to teach American Red Cross swimming lessons. Absence from any of the classes will result in a failure of the course and forfeiture of the registration fee. Instructors are not permitted to make up missed material with participants. Water Safety Instructor Training books are provided to class participants upon registration. Please review the following details if you are interested in becoming a WSI.

- Be at least 16 years of age by the last scheduled session of the instructor course.
- Successfully complete the pre-course skills test.

Pre-Course Skills Test:
* Front Crawl 25 yards <br>
* Back Crawl 25 yards<br>
* Breast Stroke 25 Yards<br>
* Elementary Backstroke 25 yards<br>
* Sidestroke 25 yards<br>
* Butterfly 15 yards<br>
* Maintain position on back for one minute in deep water (float or scull)
* Tread water for one minute
