About this Event
105 Upper College Rd, University of Rhode Island, Kingston, RI 02881, USA
https://web.uri.edu/music/camps-festivals-special-events/This overnight and/or commuter camp will focus on solo performance for woodwind and brass musicians with piano accompaniment along with small chamber ensemble performance workshops. URI Applied Music Faculty & Guest Artists will be teaching courses and workshops throughout the week, giving each young musician individual attention and training in a simulated collegiate musical experience. The courses offered are (but not limited to) Solo Coaching, Chamber Ensembles, Masterclasses, Music Theory & Aural Skills, Sectional Rehearsals, Composition, Private Lessons, and interactive workshops. There will be multiple performance opportunities for the campers as well as a Faculty recital. The workshops will be presented by highly sought-after Guest Artists who have expertise in various musical specialties.
We strongly feel as though the campers should leave with an authentic Rhode Island experience. In the middle of the camp, the musicians will be taking a field trip to a local beach for the afternoon for some fun. The campers will have time to relax and enjoy some down time together, oceanside! Each night will have a planned event for everyone, whether it be a movie night, Faculty recital, open swim at the university pool, and other fun activities.
We are welcoming campers to apply to be part of this exciting camp that has become an integral part of community engagement for the URI Department of Music. Students will be assigned repertoire based on a video audition of major scales, a chromatic scale, and two contrasting selections of solo repertoire. The deadline for all applications and materials is June 15th, 2018.
