About this Event
Join us for an online, interactive roundtable discussion with Professor Rainer Lohmann and Dr. Jitka Becanova about PFAS research at the URI Graduate School of Oceanography.
PFAS, also known as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, are toxic compounds commonly referred to as forever chemicals. PFAS have been linked to various health issues, including malfunctions of kidneys, liver and immune system. You may encounter PFAS in items such as nonstick pans, cosmetics, and food packaging, but of most concern is how PFAS contaminate coastal and freshwater systems, as well as our drinking water.
Lohmann’s laboratory group is a leader in both detection of PFAS and understanding their environmental distribution.
GSO professors Art Spivack and Martha McConnell will interview Lohmann and Becanova about their recent work on PFAS in the environment. Online participants can also ask questions about PFAS as well as educational opportunities at GSO (in person and online).
