The C-AIM SURF program is designed to provide positive, and, hopefully, formative, research experiences to undergraduate students. Given that goal, it is critical that SURF mentors are prepared to guide these students effectively to help them make the most of the opportunity.
To support C-AIM's workforce development objectives, all SURF mentors are required to attend mentorship training.
To this end, we invite you to attend one of two upcoming webinars on mentorship. These webinars will feature Dr. Breea Govenar of Rhode Island College and Dr. Alycia Mosley-Austin of the University of Rhode Island. They will each provide brief remarks on strategies for effective mentorship of undergraduate researchers, followed by a Q&A session with attendees.
We will hold the webinar twice over the next week:
Thursday, May 16, from 9-10am via this link on WebEx (Meeting # 732 352 430);
Friday, May 23, 12-1pm via this link on WebEx (meeting # 734 320 983)
Note that you will need a couple minutes to download the WebEx application.
The webinar will be recorded for those who cannot attend one of the live offerings. We will soon announce a more intensive mentoring workshop to be held in June. That workshop will provide more detailed discussion and learning on effective mentorship, and will be an opportunity for you to check-in with your mentee about what is working in their SURF experience and what aspects of the experience may need some work.
Thursday, May 16 at 9:00am to 10:00am
