On 10/10, alumnus by way of TD Nation Kevin Pajaro, 15', will be returning to campus as we continue to celebrate Latinx Heritage Month in an event titled,Queriendo Conexión (Wanting Connection): Exploring Masculinity, Vulnerability, and Relationships.
Kevin will lead conversations on traditional ideas related to masculinity (assertive; competitive; providers; protectors; anti-feminine; violent; emotionless, etc.). He will also lead dialogue about the unasked-for and often-impossible expectations of men and the internalized pain, shame, and frustration of trying to achieve those expectations.
During this discussion, Kevin will explore how harmful notions of masculinity make it difficult for men to imagine that genuine connections centered on love, care, honesty, accountability, and vulnerability are possible for them. This session invites participants to hold intentional space for one another and be in dialogue about what it means to be a man.
This event is in collaboration with Brothers On a New Direction (BOND); the Dominican Alliance of URI; the Latinx Student Association (LSA); and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE).
