Drawing on her forthcoming book, Queer in Translation: Sexual Politics under Neoliberal Islam, Evren Savci will discuss the moral regime that has consolidated under the current AKP government in Turkey, which she calls neoliberal Islam. Analyzing debates within and about queer movements, she argues that thinking about sexual politics under neoliberal Islam helps us get out of East/West, tradition/modernity, colonial/authentic binaries and see the complex and at times contradictory outcomes of neoliberalism. Evren Savci is a scholar of transnational sexualities whose work is informed by feminist and queer theory and ethnographic methodology.
