In Celebration of Black History:
KUJIFUNZA Africa Teacher Foundation Exhibit

The exhibit features photography of life in East African villages served by The Africa Teacher Foundation along with regional handiwork sold to the benefit of the local artists. The exhibit is sponsored by URI Providence Campus Urban Arts and Culture, URI/CCE Academic Programs, Student Services and The Africa Teacher Foundation.

The Africa Teacher Foundation was established in 2007 to help African teachers improve their curricular and instructional standards, and enhance the quality of life for children in the poorest slums in East Africa in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda; to meet the needs of all learners in literacy, mathematics, and writing; and to create a sustainable training program at the Africa Teacher Foundation Center for Pedagogy. The Foundation also services rural and city medical clinics where there are many orphaned children who were born with HIV AIDS and other health complications. The medical component addresses immediate health needs while emphasizing a preventative approach to health care.

Human Creativity is an acclaimed Dance and Drumming Ensemble of Central Falls High School students and alumni, under the direction of Deanna Camputaro.   The troupe shares the rich cultural heritage of Drumming, Dance, Music and Spoken Word performances inspired by the words of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., coming from the African, Latin America and Asian cultural traditions represented by the city’s diverse population.

Reception: Feb 26, 5:30-7:30 with a film presentation and African Dance and Drumming Performance by Human Creativity Central Falls High School students and alumni directed by Deanna Camputaro.
