Joshua Bennett is a recent winner of the National Poetry Series (Penguin Books) for The Sobbing School. He is also a member of a poetry collective Striver's Row, and was a featured poet on Brave New Voices' night of poetry at the White House, which became an HBO special. Slam poetry contest will follow.
OVERVIEW
• Inviting all writers, singers, poets, and MCs to share their orginal work with the URI community.
• Prizes will be awarded!
CONTEST DETAILS
• When: Wednesday, March 22, 2017 (Hardge Forum)
• Contest Opens: Friday, February 10, 2017
• Contest Closes: Monday, March 6, 2017
RULES
• Contestants must be enrolled URI students
• Solo or group submissions will be accepted
• Poems must be original, and must be performed by the submitting URI student(s)
• Submissions may be either in PRINT or VIDEO form
• Poems must be submitted to James Haile, III (james_haile@uri.edu) by March 6, 2017
• All finalists must perform their poem March 22, 2017 in the Hardge Forum
• Contest finalists will be judged by Joshua Bennett and URI Faculty
• Contest will be recorded and may be featured in a film, Black Face and The Black Metaphysical Space (Prof. Kendall Moore, URI)
