Title: Ocean climate modeling with the MOM6 Lagrangian vertical coordinate model

Speaker: Dr. Stephen Griffies, NOAA Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory & Princeton University

Abstract: This talk provides a primer on the Lagrangian vertical remapping method as realized in MOM6. Additionally, we consider case studies whereby the vertical Lagrangian approach has been used for the study of ocean climate, including (A) climate modeling with a mesoscale active ocean, (B) how a process-based analysis of water mass transformations is impacted by the vertical Lagrangian approach, (C) the analysis of barotropic vorticity budgets and how processes impacting the balances are a function of horizontal scale.
