If you are a SOPHOMORE with a 3.0+ GPA, a US citizen, and your goal is to follow a career in marine biology, marine science, oceanography, ocean engineering, hydrology, computer and information science, marine policy and/or marine education or outreach that supports the programs and mission of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency (NOAA), this scholarship is for you.
The Hollings Scholarship provides:
1) a total of $19,000 in scholarships for your junior and senior years,
2) a paid summer internship (with housing allowance) at a NOAA facility anywhere in the US,
3) fully-paid attendance two NOAA Hollings conferences in Silver Spring, MD (NOAA headquarters), and
4) financial support to present the results of your Internship research at two professional scientific meetings.
It WILL open doors for you as previous recipients can tell you. You can follow whatever graduate school and/or career path that you wish. Working for NOAA is not an obligation! We cannot think of any reason NOT to apply!
A total of 41 URI students have received this prestigious and nationally competitive Scholarship since its inception in 2005. In 2022, eight URI students received this prestigious scholarship, more than any other institution in the country. Will you be one of our next Hollings Scholars? Come learn more! Dr. Webb (Director of Marine Biology Program) and Kathleen Maher (Director of the Office of National Fellowships & Academic Opportunities) will guide you through the application process and provide feedback on your application prior to final submission in January.
