On Monday 3/4 and Tuesday 3/5, the MSSC is collaborating with the Rhode Island Blood Center; Black and Brown Women in Engineering, Science, and Technology Sisterhood (BBWESTS); Student Alliance for the Welfare of Africa (SAWA); and Uhuru Sasa for an informational and blood drive focused on sickle cell anemia.
For those who are unfamiliar, sickle cell anemia disproportionately impacts African Americans–with 1 out of every 13 babies born with the trait–which can have a severe impact on their daily life.
It is our goal to get at least 25 donors for the blood drive (scholars, faculty, and staff). This will assist us in assisting people who look like us in their treatment. You can sign up for the sickle cell blood drive using the QR code in the flyer below.
A portion of the informational will feature an alumnus of Talent Development and Brothers On a New Direction, who will be sharing a testimony about his battle with sickle cell.
Faculty and staff, please share with the scholars you serve.
MC Org leadership, please share with your general members.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to Bobby if you have any questions or concerns as this collaboration is imperative in our goal.
