The Coastal Institute is pleased to be part of the newly launched URI Superfund Research Program Center—the STEEP Center—led by Coastal Institute Senior Fellow and URI Graduate School of Oceanography Professor Rainer Lohmann.

The grant will officially be announced at a press conference on Monday, December 4 at 10 a.m. at the Rhode Island Foundation, One Union Station, Providence. The press conference will be followed by a community event at 1:30 p.m. at the Barnstable Town Hall in Hyannis, Mass.

PFASs are industrial compounds that have been manufactured since the 1950s for use in a myriad of products due to their unique oil and water repellent properties. The environmental dissemination and the human health effects of PFASs are only beginning to emerge.
