Virtual EventWorking in a research lab offers unique opportunities for students to both contribute to the generation of new knowledge and cultivate the scientist within themselves. In order for this to happen lab PIs must be positioned to support and nurture this process.
In this virtual workshop geared towards faculty members, we identify opportunities for effective inclusive mentoring and help participants consider strategies for sustaining equitable lab climates. Participants in this workshop will be able to: (1) Describe inequity within the research sciences; (2) Identify their role in creating inclusion; (3) Assess the degree to which inclusive practices have been enacted in their labs.
This workshop is led by URI's Dr. Bryan Dewsbury, assistant professor of biology, Dr. Samantha Meenach, associate professor of chemical engineering, and Michelle Fontes, Assistant Dean, Diversity, Retention, and Student Success Initiatives
