The Student Alliance for the Welfare of Africa (S.A.W.A.) will be hosting our annual hairshow on the 6th of April in the ballroom. With this year's theme, The Roots of Our Rhythm, we intend to blend music and runway fashion, and at the same time illustrate the influence of Black and African history, indentity and culture on both contemporary and conventional music genres. Models--who are mostly URI students of color--will be adorned in trendy and jaw-dropping hairstyles and outfits designed by other students at URI. We will further highlight the talent in our community through performances ranging from spoken-word poetry to hip-hop dances.

A good symposis of the aims of the hairshow can be found via the link below in an article by the Good 5 Cent Cigar-URI's student-run newspaper.
