The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program offers grants for U.S. citizen undergraduate students of limited financial means to pursue academic studies or credit-bearing, career-oriented internships abroad.

The goal of the Gilman Scholarship Program is to diversify the kinds of students who study and intern abroad and the countries and regions where they go by awarding nearly 3,000 scholarships annually worth up to $5,000. An additional $3,000 supplement may be awarded if a student plans to study what is deemed a “critical need language”. Since the program’s inception, URI has had over 100 Gilman Scholarship recipients!

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship website has a wealth of information related to eligibility requirements, application cycles, and candidate resources. Applicants are encouraged to start early, review the helpful tips on how to submit a top-notch application, and sign-up for a free webinar.

Each semester the URI Office of International Education offers information sessions on campus related to the Gilman Scholarship program. Our staff has worked with current and former URI Gilman Scholars and have served on the Gilman program’s national selection committee.  Our aim is to share our knowledge to help increase your chances.
