Gilding the Shoestrings III- Crafting Character: The Costumes of David T. Howard
October 3-27 2022, Gallery Night Reception October 20, 5-9 with costume parade
In the third Gilding The Shoestrings exhibit, David T. Howard, Professor of Theatre at URI examines the connection and use of costume to enhance the creation of a character in theatre. Costumes from productions such as Arcadia, Mary Poppins, Streetcar Named Desire, and Trojan Women explore the process of design for theatre. Some decorative, some fantastical, some rather plain- the intent is to seamlessly represent the character’s clothing choices, helping the audience understand the world of the play.
Included will be recent additions to the Women In White Study Collection: allowing students and historic costume fans to explore the silhouettes and styles of period clothing.
