View map Free EventURI’s Center for Nonviolence and Peace Studies will honor 8th grade Gandhi Essay Contest finalists and prize winners at May 4 Statehouse ceremony. Gandhi Selfless Service Awards will also be presented at the annual ceremony to the 8th grade students nominated by their teachers and schools for their dedication to service to others and helping to create caring peaceful communitites within their schools.
The Center for Nonviolence & Peace Studies hosts the Annual RI 8th Grade Gandhi Essay Contest. The purpose of this contest is to celebrate the life teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and to encourage Rhode Island students in Grade 8 to think critically about, personally connect with, and to become nonviolent peacemakers in their schools.
