About Mayda:
In 2001, Mayda became the youngest person & Latina to win the National Slam Poetry title. She subsequently appeared in the HBO series “Def Comedy Jam” & in the Tony-winning production of “Russell Simmons Def Jam Poetry Jam on Broadway,” including its national tour. Mayda was chosen by Oprah’s O Magazine as one of the 20 women on the first “O Power List.” Mayda has been described by the Chicago Sun Times as having, “a way with words.” In 2009 she was invited to perform for President Obama & First Lady.
