How can we understand how meanings and influence spread through social media? URI PR Prof. Ying Xiong presents work from two studies that use a network approach to analyze social media posts and the people who create them. The first draws on a United Airlines PR crisis to show how meaning is co-created differently by social media users in different contexts. The second explores a group of left-leaning activists in a red state to show how key influencers in a networked social movement moved opinion within and beyond their community.
