About this Event
Environmental DNA (eDNA) is emerging as a game-changer in marine conservation, offering a transformative tool to monitor ecosystems and inform policy. But as we scale up its use, critical questions arise: Who truly benefits from these technologies? How do we ensure equitable access?
On Wednesday September 25, join us to explore the Biden-Harris administration’s ocean science and justice policies and how they relate to eDNA. Hear directly from experts about the development of international standards designed to ensure fair access, and engage in a critical analysis of the social implications of these innovations.
Questions we’ll discuss include: How are narratives around eDNA shaped by different actors, and what does it mean for equity and representation in ocean governance? How can we center accessibility in the development of international standards to ensure that eDNA adoption doesn’t exacerbate global inequities?
Together, we’ll examine how eDNA fits into broader frameworks of governance, equity, and international regulation to ensure this technology serves all, not just the powerful.
This webinar is brought to you by Nippon Foundation Ocean Nexus in collaboration with our partners at NOAA Sea Grant/National Science Foundation and the University of Washington.
