About this Event
74 Lower College Rd, University of Rhode Island, Kingston, RI 02881, USA
The MSSC invites you to join us on 11/2/22 to celebrate Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead—as seen in Coco).
This event is in collaboration with the Dominican Alliance, the Latinx Student Association, and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers.
The holiday is a joyful celebration versus one of mourning. It involves coming together to pay respects and to honor family and friends who have passed away.
Please join us on 11/2/22 at 4:30pm to hear from assistant professor of History at URI, Dr. Ximena Sevilla, and director of URI's Women's Center, Ana Barraza as we learn more about Dia de los Muertos, and honor our loved ones who are no longer with us. We also encourage you to bring your oferendas to the MSSC as we decorate the altar.
The tradition consists of the building of an altar where ofrenda (offerings/memorabilia) of the dearly departed can be placed. The ofrenda holds pictures, prayer cards, poems, shot glasses, notes, etc. Feel free to bring yours with you.
