October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month and The University of Rhode Island’s Information Technology Services (ITS) department will conduct an informational campaign to bring cybersecurity awareness to the campus community during the month of October. In collaboration with the National Cybersecurity Campaign: at URI, each week will have a unique focus on the pertinent topics in Cybersecurity.

By being aware of best practices and safety online; The University of Rhode Island encourages the campus community to see yourself in cyber while protecting their part of cyberspace, stressing personal accountability and the importance of taking proactive steps to enhance cybersecurity. Information Technology Services emphasizes that everyone is responsible for safe cybersecurity practices and throughout October, we will hold weekly discussion sessions on the following topics:

Week 1 | Virtual Private Networks (VPN) and Multifactor Authentication (MFA)

Week 2 | Social Engineering

Week 3 | Remote Work and Learning

Week 4 | Phishing – Recognizing and Reporting

Check the Cybersecurity Month website often because there will be weekly updates correlating to the weekly themes with fun quizzes and videos. In addition to weekly informational emails, current cybersecurity topics and current news, we will also be hosting weekly virtual cybersecurity chat sessions to increase awareness. By introducing all these different resources we hope it will allow you to learn necessary cybersecurity skills to work and learn in your part of cyberspace.
