We're building a coalition of empowered people who recognize, analyze, and resist harmful forms of expression and communication.

Friends and partners of COURAGEOUS RI will gather for the launch event at the Rhode Island State Library, Room 208 within the Rhode Island State House.

Join the Journey

Courageous RI is a three-part initiative that helps people to ask the right questions and empowers them with the practical tools and support they need to prevent violence:

• Courageous Conversations: Engage with fellow Rhode Islanders in structured discussions where we use the power of media literacy to have open, engaging, and respectful dialogues about the many different forms of media that we watch, see, and read.

• Courageous Questions: K-12 educators, librarians, and college faculty create and share lesson plans and resources to advance media literacy as part of civic education, learning how to identify harmful messages and prevent extremism.

• Courageous Youth Voice: High school and college students participate in a youth multimedia contest and receive prizes for creating campaigns that inspire Rhode Islanders to “stay curious, not furious” when it comes to the media we encounter in daily life.

Thinking critically about what we hear, read, and see is important for Rhode Islanders of every background, across the political spectrum. When it is combined with listening, learning, and reflecting, we have the power to create safer and more connected communities.
