CELEBRACION: A Celebration of Caribbean Culture exhibition January 17 – February 23, with a special reception, music and program on February 2 at 5 pm.
In Celebration of Black History Month this year, the URI Providence Campus Arts and Culture Program in cooperation with Sol Gallery will present a mixed media exhibition of work by 20 visual artists, along with musicians and poets from Caribbean countries and also area indigenous artists. The visiting artists hail from the Bahamas, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and also features a group of 10 area artists who came to Rhode Island from this region.
Among the artists are: Alexis Canovas, Julia Castillo, Maria De la Nieves Fals Fors, Arian Garcia Garcia, Marcus Raul Gonzalez, Jean Philippe Moiseau, Carlos Romaguera, Geo Ripley, Salvador Sanchez, Kamil Rodrigues, José Sejo and from the community; Angel Cajigas-Arbelo, Luis Cepeda, Raphael Diaz, Ana Flores, Francisco Hernández, Hebe Lee, Nixon Leger, Arides Pichardo, José Ramirez and Monique Rolle-Johnson, Deborah Spears Moorehead, Dawn Spears.
The exhibit will also honor the memory of Professor Thomas D. Morin.
