We are delighted to welcome Dr. Rachel Showstack from Wichita State University  to the University of Rhode Island on September 11th where she will speak about improving Healthcare Language access for Latine and Indigenous Communities in the U.S. Dr. Showstack will explore the contexts that lead to disparities in healthcare access for linguistically marginalized communities and present an integrative approach to improving language access and access to health resources for these communities. She will 

describe how the university-community coalition Alce su Voz is working to improve health equity for speakers of Spanish and Indigenous languages across the state of Kansas through community engagement, workforce development, and policy research. She will also examine the power of individual storytelling and highlight the unique potential of community-engaged and public scholarship in the advancement of health equity. To conclude, she will offer recommendations for bringing students and 

community members together to amplify individual stories to impact healthcare policy and practice.
