Women of Color Conference

The URI Women's Center and the Rose Butler Browne Leadership and Mentoring Program will hold the annual Women of Color Conference. This year's theme is "Affirming Identity, Building Communities, and Cultivating Leadership."
The conference will feature opening remarks by Melissa Camba-Kelsay, coordinator of URI's Center for Student Leadership Development.
Zalyndria Crosby, co-founder of "Girl Develop It (GDI) Providence," will deliver the keynote address at 4 p.m. GDI Providence is part of a national organization dedicated to inspiring women in technology and more.
The conference includes two concurent panel discussions:
Session 1, 1:40-2:40 p.m.
• How do women of color navigate the academy and influence systemic change? Panelists: Dr. Joanna Ravello, Director, Community and Organizational Development; Dr. Alycia Mosley Austin, Assistant Dean, Graduate School; Shahta Yekta, Lecturer, Department of Chemistry; Dr. Shanette Harris, Associate Professor, Psychology. Location: MSSC, Hardge Forum
• What does it mean to be an ally? Facilitated by: Dr. Annemarie Vaccaro, Assistant Professor, Human Development & Family Studies; And Dr. Lynne Derbyshire, Assistant Professor, Communications Studies. Location: Memorial Union, Atrium II
Session II, 2:50-3:50 p.m.
• How do we deal with work-related trauma or workplace bullying? Panelists: Dr. Alycia Mosley Austin, Assistant Dean, Graduate School; Dr. Jacqui Tisdale, Assistant Director, Outreach and Intervention, Dean of Students Office; and Roxanne Gomes, Director, Affirmative Action. Location: MSSC, Hardge Forum
• Microaggressions on Campus, facilitated by Dr. Annemarie Vaccaro, Assistant Professor, Human Development & Family Studies; Melissa Camba-Kelsay , Coordinator, Center for Student Leadership Development. Location: Memorial Union, Atrium II
