Watershed as Common-Place: Communicating for Conservation at the Watershed Scale

Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at 2:30pm to 3:30pm

Davis Hall, 009 10 Lippitt Rd, University of Rhode Island, Kingston, RI 02881, USA

Harrington School of Communication and Media Professor Caroline Gottschalk Druschke (Department of Writing and Rhetoric) will present her research as part of the Department of Communication Studies Research Colloquium. Refreshments will be provided.

From 2008 through 2011, Gottschalk Druschke partnered with the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship to research a watershed-based agricultural conservation initiative in eastern Iowa. In this talk, Gottschalk Druschke introduces her qualitative and quantitative research into conservation attitudes of watershed farmers and landowners. She considers how farmers’ and landowners’ identification with both material and symbolic aspects of the watershed has prompted changes to the landscape for the sake of soil and water conservation.
