University Artist Series: "Duo Mantar", Adam Levin, classical guitar and Jacob Reuven, mandolin

This program explores newly adapted and commissioned Israeli works for mandolin and guitar, many of which will appear on their upcoming album, Israeli Music for Mandolin and Guitar, on the Naxos Label. In the last 15 years, Israel has become the epicenter for classical mandolin activity, with Mr.Reuven at the helm. The Israeli music programmed includes music by Grammy Award winning composer, Avner Dorman, and other prominent Israeli composers such as Yehezkel Braum, Ittai Rosenbaum, Oren Lok, Jan Freidlin, Marc Lavry, and Josef Bardanashvili. This music amalgamates the sounds of the diaspora with contemporary Jewish sounds and compositional techniques. Levin and Reuven join forces for a program of friendly and adventurous music that’s never been heard for this chamber music combination. These two artists will also be joined by the Providence Mandolin Orchestra, with whom they will both perform with as soloists.
