The Titanic Discovery: Professor Robert Ballard

Marine explorer Robert Ballard, a professor of oceanography at the University of Rhode Island, will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic with a lecture about his discovery of the ship’s resting place.

The “unsinkable” Titanic sank in the North Atlantic on its maiden voyage on April 15, 1912. Ballard discovered the remains of the ship on September 1, 1985, following a secret U.S. Navy mission to find two U.S. submarines.

In his lecture, Ballard will discuss his discovery of the ship and share his thoughts about its preservation. Read more at
