URI Makerspace, 165
Come by to learn about podcasting at the URI Libraries’ Makerspace!
Podcasting is, simply put, internet radio stories. They are audio stories released online that can be downloaded and played at any time. As such, they have a low barrier to entry for sharing stories that are relevant to the local community, niche interests, or getting a message out to a wide audience. Podcasting can be done with tools that are in most people’s pockets, and can be shared with the entire online world. College students can create podcasts as alternatives to traditional essays, to tell stories about their communities, or as a hobby.
This workshop will go over the basics of recording a podcast using a smartphone — how to maximize audio quality, prepare for an interview, etc. — but will focus on the technical side of using audacity, a free audio editor, which is often the barrier to entry for people who would like to get started podcasting. After attending this workshop, participants will be able to use basic functions of audacity, including tracks, the envelope tool, and noise reduction. Participants should be able to create a basic audio story on their own, and be prepared to use audacity’s wiki to create more complex audio stories. For a more detailed view of what will be presented in the workshop, see here.
