International education is flourishing at URI, attracting students and academics from around the world. Many international students and scholars have obtained necessary English skills and basic knowledge of American culture, but they still face many communication challenges due to cultural and language barriers.
At this event, visiting scholars from China and Korea will speak about their adaptation to the new cultural and language environment; URI scholars will discuss intercultural communication and provide suggestions and insights.
There will be a brief panel with interactive sessions to learn about global communication and media research; and international opportunities through the Harrington School of Communication and Media.
Also, a travel course to Peru where URI students will learn first-hand about how communication of sustainable farming techniques and indigenous knowledge have increased food security and resiliency of communities will be presented. Light snacks will be served.
