Guest Artist:s Ocean State Chamber Orchestra, Ann Danis, conductor

The Ocean State Chamber Orchestra was founded in 1990 in Providence by Music Director and Conductor, Ann Danis- Professor of Music and Director of Orchestral Activities at the University of Rhode Island. The ensemble performed three to four times annually through 2006 and has recently re-formed for new performances based at the University of Rhode Island Fine Arts Center in Kingston beginning in Fall 2018. The Chamber Orchestra has always been committed to providing innovative programming to Rhode Island audiences, partnering among a network of musicians, arts and non-arts organizations, encouraging both established performers and emerging artists, and serving as a vehicle for area composers to gain recognition and performance opportunities.

While OSCO welcomes back several original members of the chamber orchestra: Jonne Gomes, Laura Gulley, Lois Finkel, Mary Ellen Dejarlais, and Consuelo Sherba, new faces will complement the ensemble. Many graduates of the Univeristy of Rhode Island who work professionally throughout the region will be joining for performances throughout the upcoming year as well as other emerging artists who live and work within our community.

The program for October 2018 will include:

Symphony No. 29 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Concerto in E-flat by Johann Baptist Neruda featuring Roderick MacDonald- trumpet
Psalm from the Plains for Harp & Strings by Geoffrey Gibbs
