The URI Coastal Institute and rhodyRstats are pleased to announce the Data Carpentry Fall 2017 workshop on Thursday, August 31st & Friday, September 1st. Space is limited and $20 registration is required.

Details: Data Carpentry workshops are for any researcher who has data they want to analyze, no prior computational experience is required (http://www.datacarpentry.org). This hands-on workshop teaches basic concepts, skills and tools for working more effectively with data. Content covered includes: data organization in spreadsheets and OpenRefine, SQL for data management, introduction to R and data analysis and visualization in R. By the end of the workshop, participants should be able to more effectively manage and analyze data and apply the tools and approaches directly to their ongoing research.
Cost: $20 (a limited number of waivers are available to those with financial need, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org to request a waiver)
Who: The course is aimed at graduate students and researchers.
Led by: Rachel Schwartz, Assistant Professor, Department of Biological Sciences and Harrison Dekker, Associate Professor Librarian, University Libraries.
Requirements: Participants must bring a laptop with a Mac, Linux, or Windows operating system (not a tablet, Chromebook, etc.) that they have administrative privileges on. Specific software packages will need to be installed (listed here). Participants are also required to abide by Data Carpentry’s Code of Conduct.
