The first in a series of events in celebration of the Global 10th Anniversary of Confucius Institutes.
The Confucius Institute at URI welcomes distinguished Chinese Calligrapher and Painter Dr. Hong Zhao to offer a free Chinese Calligraphy Lecture accompanied by Ms. Siwen Long on the Guzheng, and a University of Rhode Island Pianist, Violinist, Cellist and Narrators.

Dr. Hong Zhao, Chinese Renowned Shufaist (Calligrapher) & Philologist
趙宏博士, 中國書法家、 篆刻家和文字學家
Dr. Hong Zhao currently is professor of Chinese calligraphy, School of Art, Capital Normal University, Beijing, China. His MA and Ph. D research were supervised by Dr. Zhongshi Ou’yang, a famous Chinese calligrapher, comparable to Western artists such as Picasso. Dr. Zhao is Director of Beijing Calligraphers Association and Seal Cutting Art Council; trustees of the National Chinese Calligrapher Association, board directors and Honoring Guest professor of Confucius Institute at Pfeiffer University. Dr. Zhao has authored an outstanding contribution of calligraphy research in China, as well as a great deal of cademic calligraphy and seal cutting works, such as The History of Seal Cutting in Qin and Han Dynasty Chinese Calligraphy Works.
