Tony Mendez is a retired CIA officer. He worked for 25 years, over seas, often undercover, participating in some of the most covert operations of the Cold War.
In January of 1980, he was given the CIA Star of Valor for his work creating and conducting the rescue of six U.S. diplomats from Iran during the hostage crisis. This became the basis for the film "Argo". The rescue operation involved creating a Hollywood film production company, complete with personnel, scripts, publicity, and real estate in L.A.
Tony Mendez was one of the greatest CIA Agents of all time and has received 1 of 50 medals (in an agency that has over 10,000 agents) to honor him as an officer who by his "actions, example, or initiative... helped shape the history of the CIA".
