2014 Ocean State Summer Writing Conference

Our eighth annual Ocean State Summer Writing Conference continues the tradition of offering writers of all ages and talents the opportunity to enjoy a weekend of lively interaction with professional writers on the University's picturesque Kingston Campus.

This year features three distinquished keynote speakers:

• Graphic Memorist, Alison Bechdel, who gained wide recognition with the publication of her ground breaking graphic memoir, Fun home: A Family Tragicomic (2006), which was named Best Book of 2006 by Time Magazine and is now an acclaimed play.

• Poet, Charles Bernstein, who is widely published and anthologized, and responsible in part for the Language poetry movement. He has taught at SUNY Buffalo and is presently a Professor of English and Comparative Literature at UPenn.

• Novelist, Percival Everett, author of more than twenty novels and three collections of short stories and is the recipient of the PEN Center USA Award for Fiction, and the Believer Book Award for I Am Not Sidney Poitier.

Returning to teach Master Classes are 2013 keynotes Ayad Akhtar and Amity Gaige and joining us for the first time is Harvard-based poet and literary critic, Stephen Burt.

You'll find a wide range of workshops, seminars, and more to fire up your imagination. We offer plenty of new, stimulating opportunities to keep you intrigued and writing.
