Our seventh annual Ocean State Summer Writing Conference continues the tradition of offering writers of all ages and talents the opportunity to enjoy a weekend of lively interaction with professional writers on the University's picturesque Kingston Campus.
This year features three distinguished keynote speakers:
• Playwright Ayad Akhtar, recipient of the 2013 Pulitzer Prize in Drama and the 2012 Jeff Equity Award for Best New Play for his stage play, DISGRACED, which opened the 2012-2013 Lincoln Center’s LCT2 Theater this past fall.
• Novelist Amity Gaige, recognized in 2006 by the National Book Foundation as one of “5 under 35” writers to watch out for, author of three novels, O My Darling (2005), The Folded World (2007), andSchroder, (forthcoming in February 2013)
• Richard Blanco, this year's Presidential inaugural poet, author of City of a Hundred Fires, Direction to The Beach of the Dead, and Looking for The Gulf Motel, recipient of the Agnes Starrett Poetry Prize through the University of Pittsburgh Press and the Beyond Margins Award from the PEN American Center.
